Schlage Sense Vs. Kwikset Premis: Our Verdict
Comparing both these smart lock systems is not that easy because they have a lot of features in common. Both the smart locks produce safe and durable locks and have their own specialty. If we have to pick one between them then we would choose Schlage Sense because it is a Grade 1 lock system with remote control features. You can easily control it by downloading its app via your smartphones or tablets. It also has a built-in alarm for emergencies. Plus, its app is compatible with both iOS and Android. On the other hand, Kwikset Premis is a Grade 2 lock system and has got an optional remote control feature with no built-in alarm facility. Its app can only be downloaded on iOS devices. If you want to go with a more advanced lock system between the two then you must go with Schlage but if you are more into the aesthetics of your smart lock system then Kwikset would be good for you as it is more designer and colorful than Schlage.

The Schlage Sense app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices so you do not need to worry if you do not have any Apple device. Kwikset Premis is only compatible with iOS so you can only operate it via your Apple devices. This is where Schlage has an edge over Kwikset.
All brands produce locks that are graded to meet the ANSI/BHMA standards. There are a total of 3 Grades based on the quality of material and hardware used in the locks.
Schlage Sense is a Grade 1 lock that is the most superior grade out of all while Kwikset is Grade 2. That implies that Schlage is a better lock than Kwikset in terms of quality and security.
The Schlage Sense is more compatible with other devices than Kwikset because it can be connected to various voice controllers like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa while Kwikset can only be connected to Apple HomeKit and no other voice control system.
4. Remote Control
With the help of remote control options, you can change the user pin codes, check the locks, and lock or unlock your home from anywhere you want.
You can control both the locks from their respective apps that have to be connected within their Bluetooth range. They also offer you control options outside the Bluetooth range. With the help of the Apple HomeKit, you can easily use both devices remotely via your smartphones after connecting them to the Apple Hub. But you have to make sure that the hub has to remain within the Bluetooth range to work as it is the only source of connection.
However, Schlage Sense has got an alternative option here as well to make it more convenient for you. It offers the Schlage Sense Wi-Fi adapter that can easily connect your smart locks to Wi-Fi connection and hence, you can easily control it via your smartphone and get instant notifications and easier access.
5. Built-in Alarm
Both Schlage and Kwikset Premis have different kinds of built-in alarm system The Schlage’s built-in alarm has got features to warn you about any potential attack. It has got sensors that can detect any forced entry through your door as it quickly senses the vibration at your door. It will also alarm you when someone would enter the incorrect password for 4 times consecutively.
Kwikset can only alarm you when there is any brute force entry. It will get triggered if someone would enter 3 incorrect passwords consecutively. It does not have any sensors which make its alarm system a bit inferior to Schlage.
Both smart locks use 4AA batteries. The Schlage Sense comes with a set of Duracell batteries while Kwikset Premis comes with Rayovac batteries. Their battery life also differs according to the different brands they are using for example- Kwikset Premis batteries have 6 months of battery life. You get a low-battery warning once the batteries reach their low levels.
7. Keypad Protection
The protection of both these locks is pretty impressive. However, both locks have a different kind of keypad protection system. The Schlage has got the fingerprint feature so even if any burglar guesses your security code he/she cannot enter your home because of the fingerprint unmatched.Kwikset Premis, on the other hand, does not have the fingerprint option on their keypad but it requires you to press two random numbers before pressing the right one so that the burglars cannot guess your security code with the fingerprint marks left on the touch screen.
Both the locks have a lot of similarities in their design like the backlit touch screen keypads. There is a facility to create at least 30 PIN codes to share your lock system with your closed ones. These codes only have one-time access, limited or unlimited.
3. Pin Code Access
Both smart locks have the pin code access without which no one can enter inside. These pin-codes have safely encrypted standards and so cannot be hacked easily. You can also change the pin-code of your smart lock whenever you like through the app.
4. Set Schedule
These devices have the smart feature of setting schedules or timers with the help of their app. You can easily set schedules that would lock/unlock the door at specific times. It will also give access to the shared pin-code at specific times for example if your maid comes at 9 am to work then she can only get entry between the set time that can be 9-10 am and no other time.
Both these devices need an expert to get installed. However, their installation is quite easier and would not take much time. You can install these smart locks both indoor and outdoor depending on your wish.
