Buyer’s Guide – What To Consider While Buying A Best Radon Mitigation Fan?
When you are looking to buy a radon mitigation fan, there are several factors that will determine the type of fan you require for your home. During our tests, we used these factors as the test parameters. Even our experts believe the factor you are going to read next is necessary for you to understand.
Type of Mitigation Fans
There are four different types of fans that are used in radon mitigation systems. Each has its purpose. Let’s look at them one by one.
These are mostly used for sucking the contaminated air out of the room and direct it to the areas like a basement. This principle is opposite to the system where the air is vented up. Such fans are useful to change the air pressure below the house.
They are generally two types of low or high power SSD fans. The only difference here is the amount of power. These types of fans are mostly used in newer construction. Their main job is to exhaust out the contaminated out of the space. The fan they use is fairly low power consuming and makes no noise. They are perfect for the system that uses 3-4 inch pipes.
These type fans are mostly used in sub-slab layers. They are retrofitted in the building to prevent leakage. They more suited with 4-6 inches pipes if used for home and industrial usage pipes are around 6-10 inches.
These are mostly good for the areas that aren’t so porous. Use it along with 3-inch piping with some penetrations, and it will work effectively.
The location of installation is a major factor. Based on the location you choose you to have to design your radon mitigation system. Depending on the system you get the fan. Experts suggest that the best place to install any radon fan is a basement, attic, garage, or outside your home or building. In case your building is under construction it is the best time to install it. During construction, you can install the radon fan beneath the foundation.
During installation, you have to determine how you are going to provide the power supply to the fan. Most of them can be hardwired or plugged in. If you want both kinds of options in a radon fan, you can buy RadonAway 23030-1 RP145.
Not all will be able to install the radon fans by themselves, so we advise you to get a professional to do the installation. However, you can always search for a YouTube tutorial if you are confident enough to do it on your own.
For devices like durability is an important factor. The radon fan is a device that needs to be kept on 24 x 7 to monitor the daily emotion of radon gas. If you see the price radon fan are not the cheapest devices and also the installation is not easy for an average user. So you need a fan that is reliable and durable. Durability includes proper functioning of fan, water-resistant and corrosion-resistant body. You also don’t want it to leak after a few months or years of installation.
So when you go online to buy the best radon mitigation fan, check the warranty period of the fan. Most of the reputed companies provide a warranty of around 5 to 6 years. We wouldn’t recommend you to buy a fan that has a warranty period of only a year. You want more than that. For more information always check out the manufacturer’s website.
Most of the radon fans that we have mentioned in our list are highly energy efficient. However, still, want you to check out the ratings of the fan. Most of the good fans use the power of around 15-50 watts. With such a life power they hardly affect your energy bill. In case you decide to buy a radon fan that is not listed in this post we advise you to check the efficiency rating of the fan.
It is quite possible after a year or so, the fan that you have installed may start to make noises. This depends on how good the design of the fan. If you are installing radon fans indoor, the noise will always be an issue. So make sure that whatever variant you buy it silently. Most of the fans that we mentioned in our list are silent. They hardly make any noise.
