Here we bring the Airthings Corentium Home Radon detector review after thorough testing and researching. We have seen a radon gas detector all brands. Out of all, Airthings always succeeds to provide the best products. For us, this home radon detector ranks at the top among all the other radon detectors. It is highly accurate and very easy to use. Also, you get long-term as well as short-term readings with the press of a few buttons.
Design
Quick Navigation
The Airthings Corentium Home Radon detector has a very simple design with a large enough LCD screen to offer every important detail in one glance. There are two designs European and American.
Though the functioning is the same, the readings are in different units. The picocurie per litre for the American version and becquerel per litre for the European version.
The LCD screen is the most important part of the detector. The 2-inch LCD screen is large enough to provide all the necessary information in one glance. The screen shows both long-term average name short term average in one go. Hit uses three AAA batteries to power the device.
If you see the design, the body is completely made of plastic. There are no buttons. But we think they are not required because it makes things easier while measuring the radiation. There is also a keyhole if you want to mount the device on the wall. But we think it works better when it’s in the middle of the room.
Performance
The best way to judge the performance you have to judge the Corentium Home Radon Detector Accuracy. Before deploying the unit, we measured the radon level of our test location. For that, we used the most reliable and accurate method.
After the 24 we had the first reading. But we wanted long term average which often provides the most accurate reading. So we left the detector for three weeks. The radon level we measured with the detector was 37.8 Bq/L.
The result was very satisfying. We will have gone more accurate reading if we have left the detector for a minimum of 90 days according to Airthings radon detector manual. The more you expose the detector to the radon, the more accurate data it is able to collect.
The biggest reason the charcoal test is not used is because it requires one kit per location, whereas the same detector can be used for different locations. We did the same we used the detector for different locations too. We found that the long-term average of the overall property was around 35.7 Bq/L. And the average we measure using the charcoal test was around 36.1 Bq/L. These numbers are well below the threshold of 148 Bq/m3 set by US EPA.
- It has a simple design.
- It is easy to use.
- It shows accurate reading for both the long term average and short term average.
- The same unit can be used for a different location in the property.
- It has good battery life.
- More it is exposed to the radon, more accurate it gets.
- It has no alarm as you get for carbon monoxide detectors.
- No data storage for proper tracking.
Installation
There is nothing required as far as the installation is concerned. All you have to do is put the batteries in, and you are good to go. However, where you place the detector is the most important aspect of it.
Though you can hang it over the wall, most of the radiation is found at the basement level. So always place the detector ether on the floor and in the centre of the room. You will get a better idea from reading Corentium Home Radon Detector instructions.
While researching for the Airthings Corentium home radon detector review, we found that the highest readings were found in the basement. As you go higher, the reading drops. This will be a common trend. So while placing the detector, find the lowest point of your property.
And make sure you give at least 7 days for the detector to give you the most accurate reading. There are detectors that offer live readings, but radon is something that increases slowly. Hence, this feature being absent from this detector won’t be an issue.
Price
At $199.95, you may think that is expensive considering the most accurate method being a charcoal test which costs only $15. But in the long term, the charcoal test is expensive because, with one kit, you can take only one reading. And with detectors, you can track the reading daily.
And there are other detectors, but for us, there is no other detector with such good accuracy and simple design. We also tested other detectors like Airthings Wave Smart Radon Detector and Safety Siren Pro Series3 Radon Gas Detector, which are priced almost the same price.
But these detectors are not as accurate as this detector. Also, both of them require a power supply which restricts the placement of the units. The Airthings Corentium Home Radon Detector can be placed anywhere you want.
Our Verdict
How you want to use the radon detector is the most important while buying it. According to us, the detector allows you to keep an eye on the radon gas at home. Hence, if you are considering monitoring being the key feature, you must go for the Airthings Corentium home radon detector. It is as accurate as lab tests and using it is easy. Yes, if it was able to connect to a phone or had memory, it would have the help you track the reading much efficiently.
