Garage Door Torsion Spring Replacement Guide

1. Buy new springs

2. Prepare the garage door

3. Detach extension spring

The extension of the spring needs to unbolted which is the part that holds the backside of the door track.

4. Disconnect lift cable

The connection of the door rail, which is above the opening disconnects them from the cable of the lift bracket. Also, disconnect the pulley of the spring and also loosen the cable. You can use a heavy duty suction lifter meanwhile to lift your garage door.

5. Attach safety cable

While installing the new spring, attach the safety cable and the ends of the track.

6. Attach lift cable

One part of the new cable must be connected to the door track and the other to the moving pulley. It should be threaded from the lower part of the door over the stationary pulley of the door track.

The final attachment of the track needs to be applied with a force to stretch it for at least 2 inches. These attaching safety and lift cables must be repeated for this door spring process.

7. Lubricate and test springs

The lubricating spray needs to be sprayed on the doors of the spring. Now plug into the opener and remove the c clamps to test the garage door. The opener needs more power as the new spring will be stronger than the old ones.

How to replace torsion-type garage door springs?

1. Prepare garage door

Attach in the c clamps and lock the garage door on the lower side of the door. Now disconnect the opener and keep it in position so that the stepladder is slightly off the winding cones of the spring. Also, check the size of the winding cones, which is on the end of the torsion springs.

2. Unload the springs

Here you need to insert the winding bar at the bottom of the fitting.  Now hold on to the bar tight to make loose the screws of the set in cones.

Make proper the fittings as the force is notable. Alter window cones into different holes. It takes one turn of revolution downward to release the spring.

3. Disconnect torsion springs

When the forces are released, it’s time to disconnect the torsion springs. Mount the bracket’s center and slide down the torsion bar at the end.

4. Disconnect lift cables

Hold the torsion bar of locking pliers in pairs as it prevents the fall by moving down the cables. Now detach it from the lift cable placed at the door’s bottom.

Slide off the torsion bar and also the spring. It shows the worn sign, as you can replace it.

5. Attach new settings

Slide from the new spring to the torsion bar and the left spring should be on the left side, and the right spring should be on the right side.

Keep it in the correct way. Bolt the cones in the center of the mount with the old springs attached earlier.

6. Reattach lift cables

The lift cables are to be reattached at the bottom of the door. Slide and anchor the cables of the torsion bar. The cable should not be slacked and should be wound up while tightening the screws of the torsion bar.

7. Load the springs

Using two winding bars to twist the cone to load the spring is tricky. The instructions must be followed to tighten it along with the twists between  30 and 36 quarter twists. The twist must be done in an upward direction.

8. Anchor the springs

Tap on the winding bar with the hammer of the torsion bar so the spring is loaded successfully. Tight all the screws to secure the torsion bar. Not make it too tight.

9. Finish installation

Apply the spray on the spring and remove the garage door. Check it by operating them. This is the final installation. Along with it, you can install a suitable garage door alarm sensor under your budget.
