- Rotate the key to a 2’o clock position and it will help you slide the deadbolt to the side.
- Do not remove the plug follower bar from the casing as you take out the cylinder. Clear out any bottom pins.
- You can now remove the original master key from the cylinder and select a new one.
- While reading the number on the new key, do it from left to right while reading the numbers on the cylinder during inserting, do it from right to left.
- Insert the new key in the cylinder and find the matching pins from the key set and put it one by one in the cylinder.
- Make sure that the pins inserted form a straight line and are not projecting outwards.
- Using the plug follower push the cylinder back into the casing and remove the new master key.
- Reassemble the springs and pins. Put the cylinder cap back and tighten it.
To make sure that you have done the rekeying, try locking and unlocking before you mount the lock on the door. We would suggest using a key that has duplicates and using the duplicate for rekeying so you don’t end up losing the master key.
