When you are using the fire app on your smartphone, it should be connected to the same WiFi network. It will be tricky if you lose the fire stick remote.
The problem occurs now as you won’t be able to connect the fire stick to WiFi without a remote. Here in this article, we have provided different methods to connect to WiFi without a remote.
Three Methods To Connect
There are three best ways to connect your Firestick to WiFi without a remote. First, use the fire app on another mobile phone or an HDMI-CEC remote, or connect it with the internet using Echo or Echo Dot. HDMI-CEC remotes are known as universal remotes; hence, this method will only be helpful when you have one.
1. Using Other Phone
Using the Fire app on another phone is probably the best method among the three, and we recommend that you use it because it has a great chance of success. With other methods, you may find compatibility issues.
Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1:
Connecting Firestick to the fire app in another smartphone is necessary to connect the Firestick with the same WiFi network. But here, the problem is that Firestick is already connected to the home WiFi network (that you are not carrying with you).
Therefore, you have to change your smartphone’s WiFi name and password, as you have at home or the last one connected to your Firestick. iPhones do not support this feature of changing the SSID and password; therefore, it is recommended to use Android, Mac, or Windows PC.
Step 2:
It is simple to change the WiFi name and password in Androids. All you have to do is go to Settings, then WiFi, and set up SSID and password like as your home WiFi network, the one that the Fire TV Stick was already connected to.
As soon as this setup is completed, you will notice that the Firestick recognizes the WiFi connection and connects to the internet.
Step 3:
Now take the other phone (or if you don’t have one, borrow it from someone for a few minutes). It could be an iPhone or Android. Install and run the fire TV app on this phone.
Step 4:
Once the installation is completed, connect this device to the WiFi network you created earlier. After the connection is done, open the fire TV app, and you can see and control your fire stick listed there.
Step 5:
You can go home, move around using the touch or even use the keyboard or voice control to type stuff. Pretty cool!
Step 6:
But don’t forget that it runs on your mobile phone’s limited data. Therefore, it is necessary to connect everything to the WiFi network.
So to connect your Firestick to the new remote, using the second device, go to Firestick’s settings, then network and connect to the new WiFi, i.e., wherever you are staying.
Once your Firestick is connected to new WiFi, you will see that you cannot control it with the second phone. For this, connect the other phone to the current network.
Now place the phone in front of your TV and repeat the same process, go home, move around using the touch, keyboard, voice control, etc.
2. Using Echo Dot
The echo or Echo Dot can be used in place of another smartphone. You have to modify the initial configuration of the network just like above. Then you can use Echo or Echo Dot to connect the fire TV stick to the new network using voice commands.
3. Using HDMI CEC Remote
If you have lost a remote at home and are in no mood to buy a new one, you can pair HDMI CEC remotes with Firestick and connect them to the new WiFi network.
Almost all remotes pair with each other. However, having the HDMI CEC settings enabled on your Firestick is essential. Otherwise, this method is useless.
To enable the CEC settings on Firestick, go to settings and display & sounds. There you will find HDMI CEC device control. Select and confirm it. After that, you will be able to add any HDMI CEC remotes.
Is It Easy To Connect Without Remote?
Connecting a fire TV stick to WiFi without a remote is easy. It’s similar to connecting a Tv with wifi without a remote. It will hardly require any equipment or tool; just two smartphones are all you need. Or, in case you are going for an HDMI-CEC Remote, just a remote will work.
Final Talk
Following our recommended method, it takes hardly 15-20 mins to connect the fire stick to WiFi without a remote. It is up to you which option you choose.
But using HDMI-CEC Remote cannot be a good option every time, as most TVs do not support the HDMI-CEC option.
