Window alarm sensors are popularly being installed in houses to increase security. But, it is necessary to change the battery timely to ensure safety and recordings. Let’s understand how to change the battery in window alarm sensor.
Methods To Change
After installing the window alarm sensors, it is necessary to know how to change the battery of the system in case the battery is dead or you are doing it just for maintenance purposes.
Total Time:
1. Determine Which Sensor Has A Low Battery
Before proceeding to change the battery, you need to check the sensor whose battery needs to be replaced. Usually, in window ADT alarm sensors, a message is generated but ordinary sensors do not work like that.
Before changing the battery, you need to first determine which sensor is low on battery and needs to be replaced. The alarm sensors produce a very loud noise when the window is opened and the sound indicates the opening of the windows alerting the house owners.
In most cases, when the battery of these wireless sensors needs to be replaced, these sensors start producing noise that is lower in intensity than the normal noise it produces. The lowering of noise becomes lower and lower and eventually, a time comes when the alarms stop making any noise altogether if the batteries are not replaced.
In this manner, you can determine the faulty sensor and proceed toward the next step.
2. Put Your Alarm System In Test Mode
After checking for the fault you can change its batteries but you need to put the alarm system in test mode. This is an important step to perform so that the house security does not generate any false alarms. Some house security systems are really sensitive. After you set the test mode, you can further proceed to change the battery of the sensor.
3. Take The Cover Off Of Your Sensor
The sensors available in the market are of different designs. Some are very simple and are attached by velcro or adhesive strip. You just need to pull them out and remove the cover present on the backside.
However, some sensors are encased and are fixed with the help of screws. You need to remove the nuts before taking out the case and then remove the cover. After you remove the cover, you can easily locate the battery.
4. Remove The Old Battery & Insert New Battery
Carefully take out the old battery. Slide the battery out gently. Before pulling it out make sure to remember the position of the battery fixed. Insert the new battery in the manner as the old one was previously placed.
You will also have to make sure while inserting the new battery that the plus sign ‘+’ should remain on the upper side. Make sure that the battery is properly positioned.
5. Replace Cover
After replacing the old battery with a new one, place the cover back on the sensor. If the senor is a simple adhesive type, then you just need to press the cover a little and the cover will be properly positioned with a click sound. If the sensor needs to be fixed through screws, you will have to fasten the screws back with the case.
6. Activate The Transmitter
Always keep in mind that the door/window alarm sensor work on magnet-based circuits. The magnet is very clearly visible on the sensor body. The small arrows on these magnets represent the polarities that should be aligned with the transmitter properly.
If these arrows are not properly aligned, the system will start giving false alarms which are annoying and concerning. After replacing the battery and checking for the magnets, you need the activate the transmitter for the sensor to work properly.
7. Take Your Alarm Off Of Test Mode
After making all the necessary changes, now you can safely take your alarm off of the test mode and the sensor is back to normal. Make sure that the system is running smoothly and the fixed sensor is working fine after you are done changing the battery.
Running a test is necessary so that you can get aware of the faults if there are any and get them fixed right away. Not making a proper test can create problems when a real intrusion takes place.

FAQs
1. How Long A Battery Can Work In A Window Alarm Sensor?
Widely accepted and used wireless window/door alarm sensors run on battery. Normally, the batteries last up to 3 to 5 years without creating any complications. Many companies provide their sensors whose batteries last up to 7 years but these sensors are also costly.
2. How To Change Battery In Window ADT Alarm Sensor?
ADT Alarm sensors are smart and internet-operated sensors. They don’t work on ordinary alarm sensor principles. When low on battery, they will send a notification of ‘zone trouble’ to the linked alarm keypad. ADT Pulse App is operated on mobile phones and you can receive the trouble message on your device also.
These messages indicate that it’s time to replace the batteries. The steps to change the battery in an ADT system are the same as those in the wireless sensor but a little advanced.
1. To put the system on test mode, you will need to visit the website, www.MyADT.com.
2. Find the dashboard and locate ‘My Alarm’.
3. Go to System Management, then ‘Test Sytem’ and set the system on test mode.
4. You will need a flat head screwdriver to remove the cover.
5. Replace the battery with a new one and make sure to look for the ‘+’ sign and polarity arrows.
6. Place the cover again and click it shut.
7. After changing the batteries you will need to go back on the same website to turn off the test mode and bring the system back to normal.
3. How To Find The Best Battery?
The sensors available in the stores are already provided with the best quality controls and a lifetime of enough years (3 to 5 years in maximum cases). However, if you are not satisfied, you can always go for alternative options.
But before buying another battery, you will have to make sure that the new battery you have brought is compatible with the alarm device. Also, check if the battery works properly or not.
Some bad-quality batteries stop working as soon as they are installed. You can also go for the batteries with an increased lifetime. Batteries working up to 7 years are also easily available now.
Final Talk
Installing a house security system is a wise step but you should also have the knowledge and skills to maintain it. This way, you will be secure and not helpless when an actual burglary takes place.
